Software Engineer

Hi, I'm Jacob!

Currently in my third year of a four year undergraduate program for a bachelor’s degree in computer science at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. Edinboro is a state university that allows students to focus on their primary course of interest while developing a broader appreciation of the arts, sciences and sense of community. The nationally recognized degree program in computer science has allowed me to expand my earlier experiences in a digital world and is preparing me for advances in the evolving technologies of the industry today.

I currently attend Edinboro University of Pennsylvania for Computer Science with a focus in Game and Virtual World Development along with a minor in Mathematics. I am schedualed to graduate in December 2018.

Outside of the Classroom

Phi Kappa Psi Penn Xi Chapter

Being a part of my brotherhood has given me the chance to become a leader and make an impact on campus. I am currently the chapter's President, and in the past I've been Treasurer, Risk Management, Messenger, Fundraising Chair, Alumni PR, Finance, and Homecoming Chair. Phi Psi has given me the chance to travel and meet brothers from all over the country to help my chapter and myself improve. I've attended events such as Professional Development Conference, Regional Officer Training, and  Woodrow Wilson Leadership School where we had seminars on leadership, promoting our strengths, and helped the community by working at a food bank. Our latest "Homeless for a Week" philanthropy was featured on local news for staying out in the snow to raise awareness and collect donations for local homeless shelters.

Computer Science Club

One of my goals when I first got to college was to become immersed in computer science; CS club has done that for me. I am now the vice president and have helped organized fundraisers, conferences, and new student tours. Most recently, I organized and ran a LinkedIn and portfolio workshop

Edinboro Film Series

Movies have always been important to me so when I saw a programming board that showed movies on campus I knew I had to join. After one semester, I became the president and I have been ever since. We show movies to introduce students to a side of film that they might not be exposed to. I've helped organize filmmaker appearances such as Lester Francois, the director of Game Loading: Rise of the Indies.

Game Design

2nd in Poster Competition for Downward Spiral

For my game programming class, we were given an assignment to design a full game and the top designs would be given a team and the game would be made. My game Downward Spiral  was chosen and we spent the next 6 weeks on its development. We presented a poster on it at the PACISE conference in April and came in second place in the state. Click here to read the full page about its design and development.

1st in Robotic Competition

This was the first year for a robotics competition at the PACISE conference so we had no idea what to expect. I was on a team with Dylan Nelson and Zach Gransbury. Together we designed and programmed a robot in Python to be able to solve a maze and follow a track as quickly as possible. The maze could not be solved by just following the left or right side of the track so it took weeks to figure out how to solve that problem. During the competition we were the only team who could solve the maze and we did it in the second shortest path
